Baystate Health, the largest regional employer in western Massachusetts and one of the largest health systems in New England, is a health care organization dedicated to improving the health of the people in its communities every day with quality and compassion. Its network includes an academic medical center, two community hospitals, the area’s only level 1 trauma center, and a number of physician practices and community clinics serving over one million patients in Massachusetts and neighboring states.
Late in 2012, Baystate selected InterSystems and J2 to advance a pair of parallel strategic initiatives: migration of its eGate interface engine to HealthShare Foundation and the launch of the Pioneer Valley Information Exchange (PVIX) on HealthShare. The move to HealthShare Foundation not only puts Baystate’s legacy interfaces on a much firmer technology footing but also positions the organization to support ongoing innovations in accountable care.
Thus far, J2’s work on HealthShare Foundation has focused primarily on environment setup, the establishment of best practices, and the development of several new interfaces. As the full interface migration project gets underway in 2014, we will be working closely with Baystate resources to complete a successful transition from eGate to HealthShare while helping Baystate develop the internal capability to maintain and develop their HealthShare interfaces independently. In the meantime, our joint efforts with Baystate on the PVIX project continue to extend the reach and functional capabilities of the growing exchange.
