Is someone with experience worth the investment?
I used to be one of those people who never wanted to hire a guide for the tour - I wanted to explore and figure it out for myself.
But then I had my first summer trip to Boston - Quincy, actually - which is the city just south of Boston (we can look at each other across Dorchester Bay).
My friends, who were locals, took me to a secret alcove at the end of the beach. No one was supposed to swim there because the high-tide rush could pull you under a bridge. But at exactly the right time of the day - just after low tide when the water was starting to rise again- the tide pushed against a sand bar in a way that made the perfect, natural lazy river. We all sat in our inflatable donuts, pushed off the steep bank of the sand bar into the rushing tide, and floated around in a circle, staring up at a clear blue sky, not a care in the world. Something scary and impossible became effortless and joyful - thanks to the right guidance.
And that was the moment I realized the DIY mentality I held so dear could never match the years of experience of a local. These locals were my friends, but in hindsight, I would have absolutely paid for that insider trick. 15 years later, and now I’m the local sharing the secrets of low tide with those lucky enough to visit me during the hot summer months.
I still have my inherent DIY inclinations, but now I pay for the tour with the local expert when I travel - learning more and getting farther than I ever would have on my own.
When you’re staring down “impossible” interoperability goals, regulations you’re not sure how you’ll meet, or a nagging feeling that you could be getting more from your technology investment, I hope you think of J2. We’re the “locals” you trust to help you step into easy mode - effortlessly enjoying the fruits of our experience.
Happy Summer!
