The never-ending quest for improvement.
Once upon a time, when I was in college, I was helping a friend out and making flyers for a quarterly fundraiser. We would sit together and painstakingly put all the pieces together: the headlines, the body copy, the pictures, the little icons and donation details—the full lot of it.
And after several hours, he would say, “It’s perfect.”
And then we would get them printed.
Seeing them in print brought new edits, and he would come to me with the phrase, “Next time can we…?”
This became something of a routine for us, until one day when he was walking over to me, flyers in hand, a big smile on his face, and the fearful look of “will this break the proverbial camel’s back?” in his eyes.
“Let me guess,” I said. “Perfection is ready for its next evolution?”
We laughed until we cried, and “perfection evolves” became a mantra we both carried, even as our paths eventually diverged.
Being at the Civitas conference last week, I was very much reminded of the concept of “perfection evolving”—speaking with HIE leaders, listening to shared trials, tribulations, and successes. It was outstanding how much had evolved in the past year.
The Civitas conference remains a favorite for me, and so many others at J2, and I think it’s because it feels so incredibly grassroots. It’s full of state initiatives, grant-funded projects, individual leaders with lean teams and big dreams literally blazing trails in healthcare.
I walked away from the conference feeling proud of how state and local healthcare systems had evolved to serve their communities more holistically.
Just as I was there for my friend in every iteration of his flyers, J2 is here for you in every iteration of your technical needs. We’re here to evolve with you, never resting until it really is “perfect.”

Rachel Warnock 🐿️

ACURE4Moms Program Honored with Healthcare Innovation’s 2026 Innovator Award

Seeing the ACURE4Moms (The Accountability for Care through Undoing Racism and Equity) program honored with Healthcare Innovation’s 2026 Innovator Award is a profoundly meaningful moment for all of us at J2, reminding us why we do this work. We’re technologists dedicated to advancing healthcare, bridging equity gaps, and supporting public health—uplifting patients and transforming lives through technology designed to serve.
ACURE4Moms set out to address birth outcome disparities through institutional accountability, healthcare data, and community-based support in the form of culturally competent doulas. In doing so, clinicians from the University of North Carolina joined community-based doulas from Maame and Momma's Village-Fayetteville, data experts from the North Carolina Health Information Exchange Authority, and partners SAS and J2 Interactive to provide the necessary technology infrastructure. Having supported the technology side of the project, J2 is also proud to donate to cover the cost of a doula at both Maame and Momma’s Village-Fayetteville.
At its heart, healthcare is about the human connection between a provider and a patient, and for too long, systemic disparities in maternal care have led to tragic, preventable outcomes, particularly for Black mothers. Building technology that helps dismantle systemic barriers, while directly impacting mothers and their infants, is undoubtedly some of the most fulfilling work we do.
Congratulations to all of our ACURE4Moms partners on this recognition, and thank you for your relentless dedication and advocacy for maternal health equity. Together, we are demonstrating that technology, community, and clinical expertise can save lives.
And a big thank you to David Raths at Healthcare Innovation for covering this story. Be sure to read the feature article here.

Getting down with Cardi DC!

J2 was all smiles and cheer last week as we gathered in DC for the Civitas conference—iconic Cardi DC Cardinal mascot and all! We discovered that our CIO, Steve Heard, and Cardi DC apparently share the same hairdresser, even though they live on opposite coasts. Our Director of Marketing, Rachel Warnock, shared a few words with John Lynn at Healthcare IT Today about how J2 has served HIEs and supported their needs since 2007! It was a delight to see so many friendly faces, and we’re so glad we got to spend this time among friends.
George Bosnjak from Morph joined us at the J2 booth and delivered one of the lightning-round presentations, sharing an overview of Morph's abilities to turn difficult data and siloed documents into usable, structured data and valuable insights. Catch a replay of his presentation from the pre-conference session here.
If we missed you at the conference, we’d love to catch up! Hit reply to this email, and we’ll set up some time.
Next up: J2 will be at the WISHIN Summit next week and eHealth Exchange at the end of October - will we see you there?
